Record Review Haiku
Thursday, September 15, 2005
Inspired by my friend Lane's Red Wine Haiku blog, I hereby present write-ups of some recently released CDs in haiku.Paul McCartney, Chaos and Creation in the Backyard:
idiot savant
of melody, but that can
be a compliment.
Rolling Stones, A Bigger Bang
old blues cats get down
no new ground broken; just old
ground, tastefully trod
New Pornographers, Twin Cinema
Twisty, bendy pop
way to complex to be catchy
till listen 20.
Calexico and Iron & Wine, In the Reins
two distinct sounds
roots grit here, whispered folk there
blend gloriously
Sufjan Stevens, Come On Feel the Illinoise
glassy suite candy
the beach boys meet phillip glass
except its folk, yo
BoDeans, Homebrewed: Live From the Pabst
live roots rock fury
dripping earnest commitment
but they won’t get rich
Son Volt, Okemah and the Melody of Riot
alt.coutry meets neil
young, which is incestuous
and the songs are great
Van Morrison, Magic Time
more of the same thing
but, when the same thing’s this good
you oughtn’t complain
Daniel Lanois, Belladonna
pure ambiance from
one who’s always ambient
this time, Ambien.*
*Note: sometimes you need an Ambien.

As you know, I LOVE haiku... I will either write some new ones for you or re-visit some oldies soon. There is a whole "chatroom" on either Friendster or MySpace or both just devoted to haiku. It is a bit overboard but I find it funny to see that people are carrying out conversations in haiku.
thanks roxiticus
your comments, always welcome
we're much closer now!
Yo, anonymous,
spammers cam just kiss my butt
how do you sleep, yo?
Excellent Haiku Minty, even if I blush at the hyperbole.
